Applying as an Associate member

Associate membership is available to candidates with a recognised qualification and are not self-employed.

To become an Associate member, an applicant must have achieved one of the following qualifications:

• Architectural Technology Honours or ordinary degree
• degree in Architecture or a built environment subject with a technology base
• an EDEXCEL or SQA Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Architectural Technology, building studies or construction
• a Foundation degree in Architectural Technology
• an NVQ/SVQ level 4 Architectural Technology
• overseas qualification equivalent to Higher National or above
• other qualifications are reviewed on an individual basis

Associate members are entitled to use the designation ACIAT. Applicants who are self-employed as sole practitioners, Partners, Directors, and LLP members must register as a profile candidate (Type B) but are not able to attain TCIAT. Associate members may not become self-employed, please contact the Institute for guidance.

How to apply
An application form for Associate membership can be downloaded below. When returning the application form you must include the following:

• £50 (€55) application fee and membership subscription fee
• copies of qualifications, if applicable (please do not send originals). If applying for dual membership, a copy of your CIOB/RIBA membership certificate is also required).
