If you attained the status of MCIAT and allowed your membership to lapse for less than three years, to re-instate your membership you will need to:

If you attained the status of MCIAT and allowed your membership to lapse for more than three years, to re-instate your membership you must complete the professional practice units of the POP Record, followed by successful attendance at a Professional Practice Interview. Before completing these units, you will need to apply as a profile candidate (type C). In order to register as a profile candidate type C, you need to:

If you attained the status of TCIAT and allowed your membership to lapse for less than three years, to re-instate your membership you will need to:

If you attained the status of TCIAT and allowed your membership to lapse for more than three years, to re-instate your membership you must complete units J and K of the Architectural Technician Professional and Occupational Performance (POP) Record along with a form outlining your CPD activities since lapsing. Once these units have been completed and countersigned by your Supervisor, you can then apply to re-instate your Architectural Technician membership by sending the following:

To re-enter as an Associate member, an applicant must have achieved one of the following qualifications:
Associate members are entitled to use the designation ACIAT. Applicants who are self-employed as sole practitioners, Partners, Directors, and LLP members must register as a profile candidate (Type B) but are not able to attain TCIAT. Associate members may not become self-employed, please contact the Institute for guidance. You will need to:
Profile candidate re-entry
This membership category is available to candidates in self-employment or without a formal qualification. There are three types of profile candidate:
Type A: for applicants who have not completed a recognised qualification or have a non-recognised qualification (such as one achieved overseas) with significant experience within the industry.
Type B: for applicants who have a recognised qualification but are self-employed as sole practitioners, Partners, Directors, and LLP members. Applicants will be required to register their practice, as per the Institute’s Code of Conduct, within three months of the date of their membership acknowledgement letter. Failure to comply will mean that the applicant’s membership application will be rejected. Those who require a holding letter to obtain professional indemnity insurance, one will be issued upon receipt of the completed application.
Type C: for applicants who previously held Chartered Membership but have allowed it to lapse for more than three years. Applicants must complete the professional practice units of the Chartered Architectural Technologist POP Record (Units O—Q) and then attend the Professional Practice Interview.
Profile candidates do not have a designation and no reference must be made to CIAT membership on business stationery or verbally. You will need to:
