Entering Architectural Technology

When considering enrolling on an Architectural Technology programme, you will need to have a broad secondary education with particular focus on science and technology subjects. It is recommended that your GCSE options would have included art, design and technology, english, information technology, mathematics and science (double or triple).

A/AS levels should be in a relevant subject such as science, technology, building services engineering and    construction.

Entry onto the Architectural Technology programme is subject to individual university requirements.

A career in Architectural Technology does not need to start at 18 or 21. Nor do you need to have a directly related qualification or relevant experience. It is possible for those discovering a later interest in Architectural Technology to enrol on a course, such as an HNC or HND in Construction with a view to progression to an Honours degree. You may get some exemption based upon previous experience or qualifications and these should be negotiated directly with the college or university. It may also be possible to gain related employment.

Once you have completed your initial qualification you may want to pursue a further qualification. Academically this could be in terms of HNC or HND to Honours degree to Masters or PhD. Professionally this could be from professional Architectural Technician to Chartered Architectural Technologist.
