The Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT) plays a key role within the construction process and is complementary to other fellow chartered professionals, such as architects, associated with the built environment.
Professional Architectural Technicians (TCIAT) are an integral part of the construction process, supporting Chartered Architectural Technologists, architects and other professionals.
Qualifying as a Chartered Architectural Technologist or a professional Architectural Technician will open many doors in ensuring a successful future career.
Whilst Chartered Architectural Technologists and professional Architectural Technicians traditionally practise within architectural practices and local authorities, they are also applying their skills within research, academia, manufacturing and processing industries, housing, health and government agencies.
They can be involved in projects of all types such as commercial, industrial, domestic or residential, whether it is adaptation, conservation, conversion, maintenance, management, new build, restoration or re-use.
Chartered Architectural Technologists may also elect to set up their own practice or work in partnership or as a director with fellow Chartered Architectural Technologists, architects or fellow chartered professionals associated with the built environment.
Whilst studying
Work opportunities during placement, sandwich years and holidays are valuable for both experience and finance. Whilst at work, it is recommended that you begin completing your CIAT Professional and Occupational Performance Record (POP Record), if not already started. This will allow you to have a head start on your progression to either a Chartered Architectural Technologist or a professionally qualified Architectural Technician. You should ensure that you have access to the appropriate evidence at the assessment stage.
Specialist Registers
To further your career and professional qualifications, CIAT has three Specialist Registers; Chartered Environmentalist, Accredited Conservationist and Energy Assessor.
