Case study

John Bridge ACIAT

Architectural Technology is great — I work in a practice in Kirkham called Croft Goode Partnership. I studied part-time with one day a week at UCLAN, Preston. I found that this is an exceptional method of going about gaining your professional qualification, as it allows you to ‘learn and earn!’

Both my employer and the lecturers at university encouraged me to work on challenging and enjoyable projects which have been very influential in my career to date.

Every day at work is different, predominantly designing in the housing, regeneration and education sectors.

As a student at UCLAN, an Accredited CIAT university, I could enter extra curriculum design competitions as a CIAT student member, and I was very lucky to have actually come in the top three in the Student Award for the last three years (these designs can be seen on my website www.studiojb.co.uk).

2006 proved however to be my greatest hour, as I was crowned the winner in my last year as a CIAT student member. I have since upgraded to Associate membership and am progressing towards Chartered Membership. I am also proud to be the first Chairman of the Institute’s Student and
Associate Group.
