I qualified in 1998 with a BSc in Architectural Technology from Waterford Institute of Technology.
As a part qualified Architectural Technologist, I worked in Dublin with MV Cullinan Architects for two years. I was involved in such projects as the commercial fit-out of headquarters for MCI WorldCom (Ireland), housing for Ballymun Regeneration Ltd and an extension and refurbishment of a List 2 (Protected Structure) building on Eden Quay in Dublin.
I also worked for Conroy Architects in Wexford for four years in a senior position working on various Department of Education school projects along with new build and fit-out projects for Sam McCauley Chemists Ltd and a four star hotel and leisure complex for Whites Hotel Ltd.
I was recently involved as a Design Team Leader on two secondary school projects to the total value of €11 million for John P Delaney Architects. In 2006 a multi million-euro development for Newbridge Credit Union was completed in which I played a significant on site and project management role.
Working in the industry is something I very much enjoy as each week can bring a fresh and different challenge. There is also a large variety of complex and challenging projects at present in Ireland and my experience is that this opens the door to Architectural Technology graduates to gain a higher level of experience from greater involvement in all aspects of projects from inception to completion.
As a Chartered Architectural Technologist I set up my own Chartered Architectural Technology, Project Management & Specialist Glazing Consultancy practice, Brophy Doyle Limited with my colleague Adrian Doyle in 2007. We are currently working on various one-off houses, commercial and industrial projects from inception to completion. We also offer architectural glazing and technical support services on large scale projects to various Glazing Contractors and RIAI practices from our offices in Carlow Town.
I attained Chartered Membership of CIAT in 2006.
