During my study on the BSc(Hons) Architectural Technology degree programme at University of Derby, I chose to undertake a ‘sandwich’ year to expand my practical knowledge before returning to complete the final year of study, the best decision I ever made! After graduating with a 2:1, I am now in my third year of employment with Jacobs Babtie, the company I worked for during my year-out.

As with many undergraduates, I selected my course as the content ‘sounded’ interesting, with my limited previous experience in the construction industry. Luckily for me, my sandwich year confirmed my expectations of the job, which I may not have followed if I had stopped in the classroom. 

I am currently specialising in Disabled Access Consultancy, which provides many opportunities to continue with a traditional Architectural Technologist role on a regular basis.
