I qualified as a Chartered Architectural Technologist in 1979. For the last twenty five years I have engaged within the Social Housing Movement, being employed by a South Wales based housing association. I am a founder Director of Pentan Partnership Ltd, established in 1995, which is an architectural practice operating from offices in Cardiff.

The practice employs over thirty Architectural Technologists and architects and concentrates on all forms of residential accommodation from large extra care projects, supported housing for specialist clients, new built residential and rehabilitation/improvement of existing housing stock. Our client base range includes housing associations, local authorities, health authorities, charities and individuals.

I have developed a caring professional service in the provision of small, medium and large community and supported housing projects ranging from:

• Various hospital closure programmes in the community for people with learning difficulties and mental health problems
• Projects for people with complex needs from single support housing provision to communal projects with self-contained accommodation
• Working in conjunction with various woman aid groups within South Wales to develop projects
• Development of projects for the deaf and hard of hearing
• Remodelling and improvement of existing housing stock from single family housing to OAP Cat 2 projects.
• Community education/resource centres.

All forms of building procurement are used, including standard form of contract for project partnering, which we have found to be beneficial in achieving project quality, buildability at an agreed price. The Chartered Architectural Technologist is seen as a valued member of the partnering team.

The practice has close links to local universities, over the last four years we have taken placement of student Architectural Technologists on a ‘year out’ period, during their degree programme.

I am a board member of Newport Housing Trust, the first stock transfer Association in Wales which has undertaken the ‘Prefab Regenerated Project’ of approx. 500 units.
