Raised in Ayr, Scotland, I started my apprenticeship on 1 July 1957 after which in 1964, I worked in Reading as a Senior Architectural Assistant. I have been a member of the Institute since 1965.
My wife and I immigrated to Canada in 1967 and I was employed in architectural practice on hospital projects, several new schools, and various residential and commercial ventures, etc. In 1974, I moved to a Design Build contractor as Manager of Design and as Project Manager worked on many projects for several organisations including 3M, Dow Chemical, Shell and Sunoco.
Whilst living in Canada, I became a member of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario in 1969. I erved on two different occasions in the capacity of President of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario (1978-80 and 1983–85). From 1986 until 1991, I also served as Chairman, Certification Board, AATO, and wrote the admission examinations for entry into the association.
Since 1986, I have been a Professor in the School of Technology at Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology in London, Canada, where I lecture in Building Sciences and Materials and Methods. I was Architectural Technology Programme Co-ordinator from 1989-99. My interests have allowed me to write and publish several in-house textbooks aimed at students on the programme, with such titles as - "An Architectural Student Guide to Urban Studies"; “Office Procedures in Architecture", “Materials & Methods 1 & 2 – course student notes for MATS1002 and MATS2007”; “Student Notes for Architectural Design & Drafting 5 – course notes for ARCH5002 and DRAF5007”, etc.

In 1989, I received the Award of Excellence for service and achievement, presented by The London & District Construction Association.
