An AGM for the North West Region was held at the Preston Hotel on 17 April 2008. It was very well attended and it was refreshing to see new faces. Like most Regions attention focused on electing those members to attend the CIAT AGM in Hong Kong as voting members. Vincent Clifford, Steve Howarth and John Williams will all be attending as voting members with Jeff Goodchild attending as National Councillor and will be the fourth voting member. Paul Greenwood, Steve Nicholls and Colin Orr will also be attending in their capacity as Vice-President Practice, Vice-President Innovation and Research and Vice-President Education but will not be voting.
Discussion also focused on providing assistance to those members undertaking their POP Records and one event took place which was successful. Any members wishing assistance should contact either Colin Orr (Education), Vivienne Davies (CPD) or Paul Greenwood (newly elected North West Regional Secretary), so that demand can be determined and the necessary training put in place. The North West Region is keen to support members wishing to undertake POP Records and wish any members wanting advise to make themselves known to any of the above or any of the other Committee members or to James Banks at Central Office.
Whilst it had been previously agreed to suspend CPD events because of lack of interest it was encouraging to hear that members did want CPD events to be retained but on a more local basis.
A Regional Business meeting was held at the Novatel Worsley on 29 May 2008 where committee members were elected the principal positions are now as follows: Chairman - Ian Pawson; Secretary - Paul Greenwood; Treasurer - Vincent Clifford; Colin Orr - Education and CPD Officer - Vivienne Davies. Thank you to these members and the other committee members who have agreed to devote time to the North West Region and their members. Particular thanks go to Chris Wilson who has stood down from the committee after a number of valued years of service.
The last Regional business meeting was held on 11 September 2008. Colin Orr reported that two educational establishments are seeking Accreditation and that inductions are being undertaken at two more with possibly a further two to follow. This is very encouraging for the North West Region. It is also hoped to set up some CPD events in conjunction with a local university. Invitations are likely to be sent out by email so if you want details to be sent to you, and you are not on email, then contact the Secretary and he will post the invitation to you.
The Regional Review is going to be published shortly by Central Office and the North West Region is keen to involve members in discussions on the proposals. Watch this space for notification of when this will be discussed.
