Submitting the Completed Portfolio
A panel of three, two of whom must be Conservation Accredited Chartered Architectural Technologists and one other, who may be from a different profession but also a Conservation Accredited Professional, normally conduct both the technical assessment and formal interview (although it may not be possible that both stages are completed by the same persons). New assessors in training or other relevant observers may be present but should not be involved in any decision making and have no authority, or responsibility.
Failure to submit all required paperwork and fees will delay your application. Once your application is in order and accepted, you will be added onto the Institute’s waiting list, which could entail a wait of up to 6 months. It is suggested that you retain a copy of your submitted portfolio, to refresh yourself prior to your formal interview.

Technical Portfolio Assessment
This will be completed in your absence and so it is up to you to ensure that your portfolio is clearly laid out and referenced to the Edinburgh Group Framework Criteria. Where evidence is used more than once, there should be clear cross referencing.
You will be advised of the outcome in writing within two weeks of the assessment. If you have been successful, we hope to be able to advise you of your formal interview arrangements, which may include supplying additional evidence or other information to the formal interview. If you have been referred, you will be advised as to the reasons behind the decision and any remedial action you might take, including a recommended time for resubmission.
Formal Interview Assessment
This will be based around two components:
The formal interview is designed to draw out the professional aspect of your conservation experience, which should adhere to the Institute’s Code of Conduct. It should not be necessary to bring any additional material with you, unless it has been requested following the technical portfolio assessment. You should however ensure that you are familiar with the contents of your portfolio.
You will be required to produce photographic identification at the start of the interview, such as passport, driving licence or company ID card. The interview should last around 45 minutes, at which point the panel will deliberate in private. You will be given the opportunity to either hear the result or be notified in writing. The decision will be either pass or referral. If successful, you will be advised that once your annual fee has been received, you will be welcomed onto the Register and issued with a Certificate. If you have been referred, you will be advised as to the reasons behind the decision and any remedial action you might take, including a recommended time for resubmission.
