June 10 2008, Design Council, London
There is a growing focus in the design community and more widely amongst manufacturers on sustainable design. Legislation is currently being implemented in the UK which will place specific eco-design obligations on manufacturers across the product lifecycle. Another significant driver is the potential cost savings for manufacturers – sustainable product design can lower costs across the whole manufacturing process.
Setting Standards for Sustainable Design is a free one-day event aimed at communicating good practice in environmentally conscious design and indentifying priorities for development. Feedback from this forum will be used to inform standards output in this area.
Although there are an increasing number of events on the subject of sustainability, BSI’s Setting Standards for Sustainable Design is one of the few to address this specifically in relation to the design of products and services.
The Setting Standards for Sustainable Design Forum will:
- Look at how sustainable design can help businesses
- Inform how government, international policies, directives and regulations will affect design and production
- Highlight the funding, information and support is available to help organizations start making the transformation
- Discuss and influence the direction of sustainable design in the UK
- Contribute to the debate on the way forward for standards and guidance to support sustainable product design and UK interests
The Forum welcomes delegates who demonstrate best practice in environmentally conscious design; who have a view on the issues concerning sustainable design; and who would like to know which standards can help meet potential future regulations on ecodesign.
Individuals who are involved in the areas of design, engineering, new product development, innovation, CSR or environmental management, or consultants and advisors to organizations which design and manufacture products should attend this important event.
