The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists is to be the first British construction industry professional Institute to hold its AGM in Hong Kong.
On 22 November CIAT members from the UK, Hong Kong and Republic of Ireland will gather for their AGM at the Harbour Plaza Hotel, Kowloon, followed by the President’s Annual Dinner Dance, a glittering event bringing together CIAT members and industry professionals from the UK, Hong Kong and China.
The principal guest will be WONG Kwok-keung SBS JP, Chairman of Kowloon City District Council, HKSAR. Other guests will represent the Hong Kong Government and fellow professional bodies in Hong Kong and the UK.
A number of fringe events will also be held including technical visits, presentations, meetings with senior government officials as well as promotional activities for members and potential members. A junk tour for members and guests has also been organised as a social occasion but also to support and raise funds for Médecins Sans Frontiéres.
CIAT President Mark Kennet MCIAT said of the event: ‘Every year the AGM and Dinner Dance are hosted by a different CIAT Region or Centre. 2008 is the turn of Hong Kong Centre whose members have risen to the challenge with enthusiasm and dedication.
‘The event, in planning since 2006, is of great importance in the current uncertain economic climate, as China may be one of the few areas of economic growth. Forging links between our countries will therefore be of mutual benefit.
‘Also, CIAT has chosen to address the possible environmental impact of the visit by supporting Practical Action, a charity working to reduce carbon in the developing world. They were chosen as they specifically help communities towards low impact technological solutions. I look forward to representing CIAT at this historic event’.
The event is sponsored by Autodesk and the Quinn Group and supported by RIBA Bookshops and the Architects Benevolent Society.
