Following tireless campaigning against the proliferation and complexity of the Building Regulations and the way that changes are addressed, CIAT is pleased that CLG has issued a consultation covering five principle areas:
- developing a vision for building control;
- establishing a better approach to the way we deliver regulations and guidance;
- modernising inspection and enforcement;
- providing alternative routes to compliance;
- enabling improved performance and capacity.
However, the Institute became aware that, in tandem with this, invitations for tender for the framework of the sixteen separate parts of the Building Regulations.
Consequently, our President, Mark Kennett and Sunand Prasad, President of RIBA sent a letter, which can be downloaded below, to CLG in an effort to secure an undertaking that this exercise is carried out in a holistic manner to ensure the effective execution of the improvement to our Regulations. This joint letter was subsequently supported by the RICS.
