AEEBC

CIAT is a member of AEEBC, the Association of Building Surveyors and Construction Experts (Association d’Experts Européens du Bâtiment et de la Construction).  The invitation to join followed a formal presentation by CIAT to the AEEBC’s General Assembly.

AEEBC represents over 350,000 building surveyors and construction experts who are professionally qualified in the technological and management processes by w AEEBC logo hich buildings are designed, constructed, renewed and repaired. Their expertise includes building pathology; asset protection; design and specification of new buildings; construction and project management; building maintenance, repair and renewal; legal work and expert witness.

AEEBC is comprised of 17 member organisations from across Europe, including RICS, CIOB and the Association of Building Engineers (ABE) in the UK, Konstrucktor Foreningen (KF) in Denmark and CGATE (Spanish technical Architects).

Lobbying on matters such as mutual recognition and freedom of movement on behalf of members, the association advises the European Commission on policy around critical matters such as energy efficiency, safety, health and welfare, sustainable development, urban regeneration and fire precautions in buildings.

The main objective of the Association is to facilitate the promotion of the building surveying and construction professions in Europe and the exchange of experience and information between professional qualified building surveyors and construction experts who are responsible for the technological and management processes by which buildings are designed, constructed, renewed and repaired.

AEEBC is an active association, but like many others it relies on the input of its members to deliver the business. AEEBC has seen many successes in a variety of projects, one of which is EurBE, an ongoing project to develop and implement a European quality standard which aims to aid the free movement of professionals across the EU by promoting the profession throughout Europe. ‘One of our primary objectives is to secure a level playing field for professionals through the establishment of the EurBE Professional Card, ‘ said Kevin Sheridan, President AEEBC.

AEEBC was established in 1990, initially set up by a group of Pan-European building surveyors and building experts, including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). In 2005, AEEBC merged with the European Council for Building Professionals (ECBP) to create one of the largest professional associations in construction. AEEBC welcomed CIAT and looked forward to a very constructive relationship in advancing the cause of promoting construction professionals throughout Europe.

CIAT’s President Mark Kennett said of the initiative ‘This is an excellent outcome and forms a strong part of CIAT’s international strategy. CIAT is the UK Competent Authority under Directive 2005/36/EC for Architectural Technology and our membership of the AEEBC helps the Institute to engage with like-minded professionals and promote a greater understanding of the Architectural Technology discipline across Europe’.
